A Vision of Grace:
Neemaland Queens and Kings Center

The Remarkable Journey of Pastor Grace Omundi

In the heart of Nairobi's Kabiria area stands a powerful testament to one woman's unwavering faith and entrepreneurial spirit. Pastor Grace Omundi, a determined faith-driven leader, transformed her own painful past into purpose when she founded Neemaland Queens and Kings Center in 2000. What began with rescuing a single seven-month-old abandoned baby girl has blossomed into a haven for dozens of vulnerable children—each one elevated from "orphan" to "queen" or "king" in recognition of their inherent worth and dignity.

Grace's journey exemplifies the mission of She Steps Forward International—a woman who stepped boldly into her God-given destiny despite overwhelming odds. As the seventh daughter in her family, Grace experienced firsthand the sting of being unwanted in a culture where female children were often considered a curse. Her father's resentment made her childhood exceptionally difficult. Yet through faith and determination, she not only overcame her circumstances but created a path for others to do the same.

Neemaland Today: A Kingdom of Hope

Today, the Neemaland Queens and Kings Center provides a loving home to more than 65 children, from newborns to 19-year-olds. Under Pastor Grace's leadership, each child's welfare receives the highest consideration, with a focus on providing food, shelter, clothing, and education.

The Center serves multiple categories of vulnerable children: total orphans, partial orphans, abandoned and neglected children, and those with HIV/AIDS. Beyond residential care, Neemaland extends its reach through community outreach programs that provide foodstuff, counseling, spiritual nourishment, and educational support to over 100 additional children when funding permits.

At Neemaland, family isn't just a concept—it's a lived reality. "This is home, this is family, these are my parents, brothers and sisters," the children proclaim. The Center has cultivated a culture that builds bonds of unity where all are equal before God and valued as individuals.

Building a Sustainable Future

While Neemaland has been recognized by the Kenyan government and various community organizations for its outstanding work, significant challenges remain. The Center's most pressing need is stability within its food supply.

SSFI has been fortunate to partner with organizations, such as United MegaCare, and with individual donors to improve the food supply, but urgent needs remain.

Under the mentorship of SSFI, and the generosity of United MegaCare in 2024, the Omundi family started farming, growing their own supply of maize corn and beans. One generous SSFI donor provided funds that are going toward the purchase of goats for milk.

However, food items such as a variety of vegetables and protein sources (e.g., chicken) are desperately needed.

Our First Trip to Neemaland Queens and Kings Center

Check out our visit to Neemaland in 2020. We were fortunate enough to visit with Ms. Grace and the children prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. As you can imagine, the pandemic placed quite a strain on the Center.

By God’s mercy, we have been able to visit them again since the end of the pandemic and are working to build a bigger and brighter future for all.

The needs are the same as pre-pandemic, but the urgency is greater. Your giving today will make a huge impact on their tomorrow!
