As the dedicated overseer of the Moses Basket Initiative, Phyllis works tirelessly to identify girls at high risk for sexual abuse, including early marriage scenarios and teen pregnancy. Her comprehensive approach doesn't just address prevention—she provides essential support for young mothers, teaching child-caring skills and advocating for their re-entry to school.
Phyllis's entrepreneurial journey extends beyond Nairobi to Milandi, a village area on Kenya's east coast, where vulnerable girls often face limited options and support. Help Us Furnish A Safe Haven
For Vulnerable Teenage Girls and Their Babies!
Serita's Safe House: A Haven for Healing
Breaking the cycle of abuse sometimes necessitates separating the abused from their abuser. In the case of child bride marriage, it is critical to provide a safe haven for these vulnerable young girls and their children to go. In this environment, they are able to regain their dignity, re-start their education, and look toward a brighter future. SSFI proudly supports Phyllis in her efforts to maintain Serita's Safe House.
Serita's Safe House was established to provide this safe haven to teenage girls who are preyed upon and/or coerced into early sexual activity or child bride marriages. Under Phyllis' leadership, several teenage girls and their children have been rescued from incredible abuse.
Part of the donations received for the Moses Basket Initiative will go toward helping to furnish various household needs. Past SSFI donors have assisted with providing curtains, a complete security system, and a new gas stove among other things.
You can rest assured that these young girls and their children are provided a tremendous amount of love and support as well as spiritual care on a daily basis, however, their need for a safe home is critical. We thank you for your generosity!
