Can we talk about one of the most paralyzing thoughts that stops women from stepping into their entrepreneurial calling?
"I don't know enough."
Maybe you have the passion. You have the vision. You know God placed something on your heart. But when you start thinking about all the things you don't know—accounting, marketing, systems, legal requirements, scaling—it feels completely overwhelming.
You look at other entrepreneurs who seem to have it all figured out, and you think: "They know what they're doing. I'm just winging it."
Sound familiar? Here's what I want you to know: You're not alone in this feeling. And that gap in your business knowledge? It doesn't disqualify you from your calling.
The Gap That Feels Like a Canyon
As Christian female entrepreneurs, many of us step into the entrepreneurial space with a burning passion and a God-given vision but perhaps limited formal business knowledge or experience.
This gap can feel overwhelming. But friend, here's the crucial truth you need to remember: God equips those He calls.
With His guidance, we can grow in both spiritual and practical wisdom. We don't have to know everything before we start. We just have to be willing to learn as we go.
Proverbs 4:7 tells us: "The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it costs all you have, get understanding."
Notice the verse doesn't say, "Wait until you have all wisdom before you begin." It says the BEGINNING of wisdom is seeking it. You start. You learn. You grow.
When God Calls the "Unqualified"
I love the story of Bezalel in Exodus 31:1-5. God called Bezalel to do incredibly detailed, technical work—building the Tabernacle with all its intricate designs and craftsmanship.
So what did God do? The Bible says God filled Bezalel "with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills" to do the work he was called to do.
God didn't choose Bezalel because he already had all the skills. God filled him with what he needed AFTER calling him.
Similarly, God can and will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to fulfill your entrepreneurial calling.
Embracing a Learner's Mindset
Here's where we need a major mindshift: Being a beginner isn't a disqualification—it's an opportunity.
Proverbs 18:15 says: "The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out."
The wise SEEK knowledge. They don't already have it all. They're actively, continually learning. This is what it means to embrace a learner's mindset.
Practical Steps to Grow in Wisdom
First, identify your knowledge gaps. What specific areas do you need to learn more about? Get specific. You can't address what you haven't identified.
Second, find quality resources. Look for books, online courses, webinars, podcasts, or local classes on business topics. Be strategic—choose resources that address your specific gaps and actually apply what you learn.
Third, seek wise counsel. Proverbs 15:22 says: "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." Don't be afraid to ask for help. This is wisdom, not weakness.
Fourth, find a mentor. Seek out a more experienced Christian entrepreneur who can guide you. A good mentor can help you avoid costly mistakes and provide perspective when you're stuck.
Fifth, network intentionally. Join Christian business groups or attend entrepreneurship events to learn from others walking the same journey.
Sixth, start with what you know. Like the parable of the talents, use and develop the skills you already have. God can multiply your efforts. Don't wait until you know everything to take action.
Seventh, start small and build gradually. Begin applying what you learn in small ways. One new skill, one new system, one new strategy at a time compounds over time.
The Gap Doesn't Have to Stop You
World changer, listen to me: This gap in your business knowledge doesn't have to stop you from pursuing your God-given dream.
There are ways to learn. There are people who can help. There is a community of sisters walking this same journey.
Remember, every successful entrepreneur started as a beginner. Your willingness to learn and grow, combined with your faith in God's guidance, can absolutely overcome the initial hurdle of limited business knowledge.
God doesn't call the equipped. He equips the called. And friend, if He called you to this, He will equip you for it.
Reflect & Apply
1. What specific areas of business knowledge do you feel most inadequate in? Make a list. Be specific.
2. What's one book, course, or resource you've been meaning to invest in but haven't yet? What's stopping you?
3. Who is one person more experienced than you that you could reach out to for mentorship? What's holding you back from reaching out?
Your answers matter. This isn't just reflection—it's the strategic planning work that transforms your weaknesses into areas of growth and development.
