Can I ask you something?
Have you ever sat in a meeting, listened to someone compliment your work, and thought to yourself: "If they only knew the real me, they'd realize I have no idea what I'm doing"?
Or maybe you've hesitated to put yourself out there—to launch that program, raise your prices, apply for that grant, or pitch to that client—because a voice in your head keeps whispering, "Who do you think you are?"
Yeah, me too.
Today we're talking about two silent but powerful adversaries that plague so many talented, called, gifted women in our She Steps Forward community: embracing your God-given purpose and knowing your worth.
Without this foundation? Everything else you build will feel shaky.
The Truth About Your Calling
Let's start here. That business idea stirring in your heart? That vision for a ministry or nonprofit that keeps you up at night? That's not random. It's not your imagination running wild. It's a seed planted by the Creator of the Universe Himself, and He's waiting for you to nurture it into bloom.
Jeremiah 29:11 isn't just a pretty verse for graduation cards. It's a promise: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
This verse encompasses every aspect of your life, including your calling as an entrepreneur in the marketplace. God has a plan for your business. He has a strategy for your ministry. He sees the sustainable path forward even when you can't.
Think about the talents you possess right now. The experiences you've accumulated. The unique perspective you bring to the table. These aren't coincidences—they're carefully crafted elements of your purpose.
But here's where we get stuck, right?
When Purpose Meets Doubt
James 2:17 reminds us that "faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." Your God-given purpose needs your cooperation, your effort, and your willingness to step out in faith. Purpose without action remains just a dream collecting dust.
So what's really holding you back today?
Is it fear of failure? Let me tell you something that changed my perspective: Failure isn't the opposite of success. It's a stepping stone on the path to success. Every successful entrepreneur you admire has a graveyard of failed attempts behind them. The difference? They kept moving forward.
Is it self-doubt? Here's a truth that will set you free: God doesn't call the qualified. He qualifies the called. When He placed that dream in your heart, He already knew everything about you—your strengths, your weaknesses, your past, your insecurities. And He chose you anyway.
Are you worried about the challenges ahead? Good. That means you're taking this seriously. But worry without trust is just spinning your wheels.
The Confidence Crisis Nobody Talks About
Let's dive deeper into something I see all the time in our She Steps Forward community: the confidence crisis that paralyzes talented, called, gifted women right at the starting line.
You know you're called. You believe God spoke. But then you look at other entrepreneurs who seem to have it all together, and suddenly you feel like an imposter in your own dream.
Can I tell you what Ephesians 2:10 says? "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Read that again. You are God's handiwork. His masterpiece. His piece of work! And those good works? He prepared them in advance specifically for you.
When we doubt ourselves, we're essentially doubting God's craftsmanship. We're questioning the Master Designer's blueprint. And friend, that's where we need to make a serious mindshift.
Lessons from an Unlikely Leader
I love the story of Gideon in Judges 6-8. When God called him to lead Israel, Gideon's response was basically: "Who, me? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I'm the least in my family!"
Sound familiar?
"God, I'm not qualified enough."
"I don't have the right education."
"I'm too young/too old/too inexperienced."
"Someone else could do this better."
Despite Gideon's lack of confidence, God saw his potential and used him mightily. The same God who saw potential in a man hiding in a winepress sees potential in you sitting there reading this blog post.
This is what Proverbs 31:25-26 describes: "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue."
That confident woman who trusts in her God-given abilities and uses them to benefit others? That's who you're becoming. Not because you're perfect, but because you're partnering with a perfect God.
Building Unshakeable Confidence
So how do we actually build this kind of confidence? How do we move from "I don't think I can do this" to "Watch what God does through me"?
First, ground your identity in Christ. Your worth is not in your business success. It's not in your revenue. It's not in how many followers you have or clients you serve. You are a beloved child of God. That identity doesn't change whether your business thrives or fails.
Second, recognize and develop your God-given talents. Take inventory today. What are you naturally good at? What do people consistently come to you for help with? What lights you up? These talents aren't accidents—they're assignments. God gave them to you for a reason, and your business is one way to steward them well.
Third, cultivate a growth mindset. Here's something that will change your entrepreneurial journey: Stop seeing challenges as threats and start seeing them as opportunities to learn and grow. Every obstacle is teaching you something you'll need later. Every setback is setup for a comeback.
Fourth, surround yourself with a supportive community. This is why we built She Steps Forward International. You cannot do this alone. You need fellow Christian entrepreneurs who understand the unique challenges of building something Kingdom-focused in the marketplace. You need women who will pray with you, strategize with you, and celebrate with you.
Fifth, practice positive self-talk. What you say to yourself matters. When negative thoughts creep in (and they will), counter them with truth from God's Word. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). Not "I can do some things" or "I can do easy things." ALL things. Through Christ who strengthens you.
Sixth, step out in faith even when you don't feel confident. Sometimes building confidence requires acting confident before you feel it. Trust that God will equip you as you step out. He's not going to give you the tools for step ten when you're still standing at step one. Take the step in front of you.
Your First Step Starts Today
So let me challenge you, world changer. What's your first step today?
Maybe it's finally writing down that business idea that's been bouncing around in your head for months. Maybe it's researching your market to see who you'd serve. Maybe it's creating a rough draft of your business plan. Maybe it's reaching out to a mentor who's a few steps ahead. Maybe it's joining our community at She Steps Forward International.
Whatever that first step looks like for you, take it today with the confidence that you are walking in alignment with your divine purpose.
Let go of the comparison game. God isn't asking you to be her or her or that woman you follow on Instagram. He's asking you to be the fullest expression of YOU in partnership with Him.
Let go of yesterday's mistakes. Nothing about your past, present, or future is a surprise to God. Those nicks and flaws you see in yourself? They make you perfect for the calling God has given you. They make you relatable to the people God has called you to serve.
Let go of the need to have it all figured out. None of us have it all together, and anyone who pretends to is lying. This journey is about progress, not perfection.
The Partnership That Changes Everything
Friend, you are not alone on this journey. You have the ultimate business partner in Christ, and the entire sisterhood of She Steps Forward International cheering you on.
Your story of entrepreneurial success is waiting to be written, and it begins right here—with embracing your God-given purpose, knowing your worth in Christ, and taking that courageous first step forward.
Are you ready to say yes to your calling?
The world is waiting for the unique value only you can bring. Trust in His plan, step out in faith, and watch as He turns your entrepreneurial dreams into reality.
Remember, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are equipped by God for the good works He has prepared for you. And friend, that includes your entrepreneurial journey—every challenge, every victory, every moment of growth.
You were made for this.
Reflect & Apply
Take a few minutes to think through these questions. Even better—grab your journal and write out your responses. There's power in putting pen to paper.
1. Where are you struggling most with self-confidence right now? Be specific. Is it in marketing yourself? Setting prices? Leading your team? Bring that specific struggle to God in prayer today.
2. What are three of your God-given strengths or talents? If you're drawing a blank, ask a trusted friend or family member. We often can't see our own gifts clearly. How could you leverage these more intentionally in your business?
3. Think back to a time when God helped you accomplish something you initially felt unequipped for. What did He teach you through that experience? How does remembering His faithfulness then encourage you in your current challenges?
4. What negative self-talk are you entertaining? Write it down. Then next to it, write the Bible verse or truth that counters that lie. This is how you renew your mind.
5. Who are the people in your life that build you up and encourage your God-given potential? How can you cultivate more time with these life-giving relationships? And just as importantly—are there relationships that consistently tear you down that need boundaries?
Your answers to these questions matter. They're not just nice reflection exercises—they're the strategic work of building the confidence foundation your business needs to thrive.
