Embracing God's Timing: The Waiting Room Nobody Signed Up For

SSFI Blog/Confidence/Embracing God's Timing: The Waiting Room Nobody Signed Up For

Can we talk about one of the hardest paradoxes in entrepreneurship?

You need to be patient and trust God's timing. But you also need to be bold and courageous and take action.

Wait, but also go. Trust the process, but also make moves. Be still, but also step forward.

Confusing, right? I get it. I've been there, standing at the intersection of "God, are You asking me to wait or to GO?" and feeling completely paralyzed by the tension.

But here's what I've learned through my own journey and through coaching hundreds of women in our She Steps Forward community: Both are true. And learning to discern which season you're in is one of the most critical skills you'll develop as a Kingdom entrepreneur.

Today, let's talk about embracing God's perfect timing while also being ready to move when He says "now."

The Waiting Room Nobody Signed Up For

Let me guess. When you first felt God stirring that dream in your heart—whether it's a business, ministry, or nonprofit—you probably thought it would happen faster than this, didn't you?

You had the vision. You felt the calling. You were ready to GO.

But then... crickets. Closed doors. Slow growth. Delays you didn't see coming.

And now you're sitting in what I call "the waiting room nobody signed up for," wondering if you missed God's timing entirely or if He's forgotten about you.

Friend, He hasn't forgotten you.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us: "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens." This isn't just poetic wisdom—it's profoundly relevant to your entrepreneurial journey.

Your venture might not be growing as quickly as you'd like. That partnership you prayed for might not have materialized. The funding you need might be taking longer than expected.

But what if God's timing is perfect? What if the delay isn't a denial but a divine setup for something better than you could imagine?

What to Do When God Says 'Wait'

Here's the thing about waiting seasons that nobody tells you: They're not wasted time. They're preparation time.

Think about farmers. Before they ever see a harvest, they prepare the soil. They remove rocks and weeds. They test the pH balance. They invest time and resources into creating the right conditions for growth. If they skip this preparation phase and just throw seeds on unprepared ground, the harvest suffers.

The same is true for your entrepreneurial journey.

So how do we embrace God's timing without losing our minds?

Practice patience. I know, I know. Patience isn't exactly trending on social media. Everyone wants overnight success stories. But sustainable, Kingdom-focused ventures aren't built overnight. Trust God's timeline, not Instagram's.

Prepare in the waiting. This is where the real work happens. Use periods of slower growth to refine your skills, deepen your knowledge, and strengthen your foundation. Read that book. Take that course. Build that system. Develop that relationship. You're not just waiting—you're preparing.

Recognize the seasons. Just as there are seasons in nature, there are seasons in entrepreneurship. There will be times of planting (investing, building, creating). Times of growing (slow but steady progress). Times of harvesting (seeing results, celebrating wins). And yes, times of resting (stepping back, evaluating, restoring). Embrace each season for what it teaches you.

Stay faithful in small beginnings. Zechariah 4:10 says something powerful: "Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin." Your impact starts from day one, even if it's not visible yet. God sees every small obedient step you take, and He's rejoicing over it.

Trust the process. Here's a truth that has anchored me time and time again: Delays are not denials. God might be protecting you from launching before you're ready. He might be closing one door because He's opening a better door you can't see yet. He might be developing character in you that you'll need for the next level.

Celebrate progress, not just results. Acknowledge and thank God for each step forward, no matter how small it seems. Did you finally finish your website copy? Celebrate that! Did you have your first discovery call? Praise God for it! Every step matters.

When we align ourselves with God's timing, we free ourselves from the exhausting stress of trying to force outcomes. Instead, we can focus on being faithful stewards of the vision He's given us, trusting that He will bring it to pass in His perfect timing.

The Paradox of Patience and Action

So here's how these truths work together, friend.

You trust God's timing by being faithful in the season you're in. You prepare. You learn. You grow. You don't force doors open that God has closed.

But you also exercise discernment by listening for His voice. Staying close to God. Being obedient whether He's saying "wait" or "go."

It's not "wait OR go." It's "wait well AND go boldly when He calls."

The key? Staying close to God. Listening for His voice. Discerning the season. Being obedient whether He's saying "wait" or "go."

Isaiah 41:10 anchors us: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

He's with you in the waiting. He's with you in the moving. He strengthens you. He helps you. He upholds you.

So whether you're in a season of waiting or a season of bold action—trust Him. Be faithful. Be patient.

God is with you, ready to do immeasurably more than all you ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).

Reflect & Apply

Grab your journal and work through these questions. Don't rush—let the Holy Spirit speak to you.

1. What season are you in right now? Planting? Growing? Harvesting? Resting? How does recognizing this season change your expectations?

2. In what area of your entrepreneurial venture are you currently waiting on God's timing? How can you better use this season to prepare for future growth?

3. What small beginning can you celebrate today? Take a moment right now to thank God for it.

Your answers matter. This isn't just reflection—it's the strategic spiritual work that builds the foundation for everything else.
